Gift Card Terms of Use

BNC gift cards and eGift cards can be used to buy products at all Barnes & Noble College retail or online locations.

Physical (Plastic) Gift Cards

  • Gift cards can be purchased in any amount, starting with a minimum of $10 up to a maximum of $500.
  • Customers cannot use gift cards to purchase additional gift cards.
  • If the amount of the gift card does not cover the total purchase amount, you must pay for the remainder of the purchase with a valid form of payment.
  • If the amount of the gift card is more than the total order amount, the balance amount will be stored on your gift card.
  • Gift cards are non-refundable, are not redeemable for cash except as required by law, and cannot be reloaded.
  • Lost or stolen gift cards cannot be replaced. BNC is not responsible for lost or stolen gift cards.
  • Sales tax is not charged when buying gift cards, but purchases paid for with gift cards will be charged applicable sales tax if required by state or local law of the bookstore where the purchase is made in store or if the purchase is shipped to an address where tax is payable.
  • There is no expiration date on any gift cards.
  • Gift cards may not be purchased in store with a check.
  • If you return items purchased with a gift card, a new gift card will be issued to you.
  • There are no fees associated with gift cards or eGift cards.

  • BNC reserves the right to change these gift card terms and conditions at its sole discretion at any time and with or without notice by updating this posting. We will provide notice of such changes if or as required by law. You should visit this page from time to time to review the then-current terms and conditions because they are binding on you to the fullest extent permissible by applicable law. If any of these terms shall be deemed invalid, void or unenforceable, such terms shall be deemed severable and shall not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining terms.
  • Gift cards, including those branded for a specific college or university, can be used at any bookstore location while it is managed by BNC. In the event BNC no longer manages a location it previously operated, BNC gift cards cannot be used at the location after BNC ceases management thereof; however, BNC gift cards (including school-branded gift cards) can still be used at other BNC locations.

Online / eGift Cards

  • eGift cards are subject to the same terms and conditions as physical gift cards. The following terms also apply to eGift cards:
    • By purchasing an eGift card, you acknowledge and agree BNC’s Terms of Use (https://www.bncollege.com/terms-of-use/) and Privacy Policy (https://www.bncollege.com/privacy-policy/) (collectively and as each may be amended from time to time, “Terms”) apply to your purchase. BNC reserves the right to change the Terms and conditions at their sole discretion at any time and with or without notice.
    • eGift cards may only be purchased with credit or debit cards.
    • If you wish to add a personal message to an eGift Card, type your message in the appropriate field during the purchase process. Personal messages are limited in length. There is no additional charge to include a personalized message. If we find inappropriate, offensive or otherwise objectionable messages, we reserve the right to cancel them and not process the order.
    • Recipients will receive their eGift card via email, which will include a code that must be used to redeem the eGift card. eGift card codes will be activated within 24 hours after you receive the codes.
    • Ownership and risk of loss of eGift Cards passes to the purchaser as soon as we send our confirmation to the recipient.
    • BNC is not responsible for eGift Cards that are undeliverable or not received due to the failure to enter an accurate email address for the recipient or for other reasons outside BNC’s control (such as spam filters, routing to a spam folder, firewalls, and inboxes over size limit).
    • eGift Cards cannot be reloaded, resold, transferred for value, or redeemed for cash except to the extent required by law. Void if reloaded, resold, transferred for value, or redeemed for cash.
    • eGift cards can be used at any BNC bookstore location or online channel that physical Gift Cards are accepted.
    • If you return items purchased with an eGift Card, a new Gift Card will be issued to you.
